Over 100 years ago this
trunk was beautifully crafted. It probably traveled for awhile at least and
then someone painted it bright green! Restoring this one was truly an act of
love because many hard hours of scraping and sanding were required to bring
it back to its original beauty. (We do not use liquid strippers on our
restorations. We can usually remove the paint from the surface of the wood
but never all of it from within the wood's pores.) We hope you agree it was
all worth the effort. The background wood is
beautifully knotted pine; the just-as-beautiful staves are hardwood.
We've left just enough bruises to indicate the age of this piece. The
original working lock is still there along with a solid brass key. The inside of the trunk is as elegant as the outside and although this is
a relatively small trunk, it has a fair amount of storage space. The handles have been replaced with nice double-stitched leather. We found
this beauty near Blowing Rock, NC on one of our trunk-hunting trips. If you want a nice,
interesting piece of history that will serve as practical and lockable storage, make a
