Another compromise turns out well. When we find a flat top trunk covered in canvas, the first thing we must decide is whether the canvas is good enough to leave on or must it come off. Must we sacrifice part of the the history of the trunk to make the trunk look beautiful again? There simply was no choice on this one since the majority of the canvas was gone entirely. The good side of this happening is that after many hours of hard work we end up with a trunk that is absolutely gorgeous. The background wood of this one is very rich pine with knots and heavy grain. The hardwood staves turned out beautifully as well. Inside is the original deep tray and a new lining that is nearly identical to the original. The lock works and a key is furnished. All the leather has been replaced with new double-stitched handles, strap keepers and straps with brass roll buckles. There's loads of storage space inside this beauty and it will make a great coffee table or end table, fitting into just about any decor.
