The top of the
line in doctor bags, a Schell Emdee doctor bag with beautifully supple leather. It has all the
wonderful qualities of the Schell bags that were produced for decades and
were always the very best. Two large compartments with snap-lock
covers are inside, one on each side. An adjustable strap with
several loops for holding bottles and instruments is in the bottom of
the bag. Schell made the very best doctor bags using very good leather and
solid brass or nickel hardware. The hardware on this one is solid brass.
One of Schell's exclusive features was the use of eight metal sleeves
for the handles. Instead of leather-metal contact the stress on the
handles is relieved by metal-metal contact, much stronger and
long-lasting. This
bag would make an excellent gift for a serious collector or a med student
(we sold one to a doctor in California who is now using it to make house
calls; two others are carrying the tools of "computer doctors" working
for an IT company).
The patent on this one dates to 1942. We've cleaned and treated the
leather, so it should last many more years. Please note the outside leather is
solid black, the blue in the photos is a reflection of blue sky. Doctor bags have become a very collectable item; to find one of this quality
is very rare indeed. Just email us at
