Wicker frame trunks are quite hard to find these days since few have survived their travels. Their original intent was light weight but they weren't very strong. This one has been well cared for. Note the beautiful and extremely rare suspended lock. It's solid brass, very decorative, original and still works. An antique key is provided. Patent dates of May, 1870 and September, 1887 are etched into the lock. The lock was made by the Star Lock Works which was established in Philadelphia in 1869 (formerly C. Liebrich, an early American locksmith who started in 1836). Inside the trunk is the original maker's label of George B. Bains and Sons, a successful trunk maker in Philadelphia for many years. Inside also are the original straps to hold clothes in place. The wicker frame is covered by an oil cloth exterior which has been treated and preserved. In fact all we've done is clean and preserve the trunk then replace the leather handle and straps. We left the initials of a previous owner of long ago on the ends. This is a nice size that will fit into just about any decor. Imagine it at the foot of a bed, in a foyer, in front of a bay window, no matter where, you'll love it. If you want an elegant piece of history with a few cubic feet of lockable storage space, then don't hesitate to call or email us. This is the only trunk of this style we've had in decades.
