Over 100 years ago this trunk was beautifully crafted. It probably traveled extensively since the canvas covering was very worn and tattered. In fact so much was gone we were forced to remove the remainder. Always a sad thing to do but there's a good side: the wood beneath the canvas was protected and still turned out very nicely. After many hours in our shop it has now been completely restored to its original beauty. The background wood is beautifully knotted pine; the just as beautiful staves are hardwood. We've left just enough bruises to indicate the age of this piece. The inside of the trunk is as elegant as the outside and although this is a medium-sized trunk, is quite spacious. The original large deep tray inside is made of beautiful pine. The leather has been replaced with nice double-stitched handles and brass roller buckle straps. Note the fancy knees on the lid; these act as braces for the top and sides of the lid. We found this beauty in the village of Clemmons, NC on one of our local trunk-hunting trips. If you want a nice, interesting piece of history that will serve as practical storage, make a nice coffee table or end table, and will enhance just about any decor then a (toll-free) call on 1-877-653-8786 or an email to TreasuredChests@oldtrunks.com will make it yours.
