Rear Views of Beautiful 1880s Dome Top
|
| This beauty from the 1880s
has a lot going for it. The Diamond Crosshatch embossed pattern is quite
rare these days and to find one that hasn't half rusted away is even more
rare. The pattern appears on the front, top and both ends of the trunk. It
has been lovingly restored in two colors to bring back the relief. The
original working lock is still there with an antique key. Patent dates of
March 1869 and April 1877 appear on the lock's solid brass escutcheon. Two
rosettes appear on the top. The
leather handles have been replaced with nice new double-stitched ones. This
is a really nice size trunk that will fit in just about anywhere yet has
plenty of lockable storage space. Imagine it in your foyer, bay window, foot
of a bed, you name it-it'll fit. We found it in Mocksville, NC on one of our
local trunk hunts.
